There's a cherry tree in Tavistock Square in London, planted in memory of those died in the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings.

Tavistock Square is informally thought of as a place symbolizing peace; there's a monument to conscientious objectors and a bust of Virginia Woolf (who wrote some pacifist nonfiction), and the focal point is a statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Which made it all the more pointed that the July 7 bombings included one on a bus at Tavistock Square.

(When will they ever learn...)
